"Do I love you? my god, if your love were a grain of sand mine would be a universe of beaches."
- THE PRINCESS BRIDE
TJ and Shelby met during a beach volleyball small group at Church of the Highlands. Shelby joined the group to meet new people and to play a fun game of volleyball. TJ is originally from Huntsville and had moved a few times all over the world. A small group for him was the perfect way to meet new people in Birmingham, his new home. They both had no idea, they would be meeting their future spouse.
They caught each others attention immediately and hit it off. By the end of the summer, they began dating. TJ and Shelby fit together perfectly. Their personalities mesh beautifully...not to mention, they're a gorgeous couple.
TJ had just bought a new home and they both went to go furniture shopping. On the way home, TJ took an unexpected route by the Greystone Campus of Church of the Highlands (where they first met). When TJ parked the car, he handed Shelby a letter. TJ had written to express how his feelings had progressed throughout various dates and about significant times in their relationship. Shelby read half way through the letter and starting getting a little emotional. At that moment, TJ asked Shelby to stop reading and to step out of the car (she didn't know that TJ had actually hid the ring in the car).
TJ took Shelby's hand and they both began walking. Shelby had no idea where they were walking to, but she could see something in the distance. TJ had set up a little spot just for them with photos, candles, and other decor. The pond in the background was beautiful. Once they arrived, TJ asked Shelby to continue reading the letter he had written. He had written how he felt about Shelby. While she was reading the last sentence, she looked at TJ to find him down on one knee!! He asked her to marry him! Shelby said YES before he could finish his words.
One little, fun, incredibly meaningful fact: Shelby's dad is a jeweler. TJ had Shelby's ring custom made and included both of her parents in the process. Shelby's dad helped TJ design the ring and had the stones from Shelby's mothers original wedding band set into her engagement ring. During their engagement session, Shelby looked down at her ring, then at TJ, and said, "I love that my ring has my mom, my dad, and you in it. "
Congratulations to you both! Your wedding day in the spring is going to be incredible, and I can't wait to be there!
